DIVISIONAL MANAGEMENT

Anja Ternes

Hello, my name is Anja Ternes. I am head of the anesthesiology intensive nursing units 32/2 and 32/3 and the intensive nursing pool at Mannheim University Hospital.

EMERGENCY MEDICINE

Intensive care pool and wards 32-3 and 32-2

The "stay" on our wards is rarely planned. Only in the case of major surgery will you be prepared for a short stay in the intensive care unit during your preliminary consultation. Many of you come to us after serious traffic accidents, brain hemorrhages or because of lung failure. We are a multi-professional team - consisting of nursing staff, doctors, respiratory therapists, kinaesthetic trainers, wound managers, physiotherapists, chaplains and cleaning staff - and will look after you and your relatives around the clock during this difficult time.

When you are on our ward, you will be connected to many modern devices that support your breathing and circulation; we will be happy to explain the equipment to you. In this life-threatening situation, it will be difficult for you to comprehend your time in the intensive care unit, which is why we will create an intensive care diary for you after consultation, so that you can process the time when you are feeling better again.

We look forward to receiving your feedback when you are back home.

OUT OF THE ROUTINE, INTO THE POOL!

The UMM Nursing Campaign

The IntensivPflegePool (IPP) at the UMM offers the opportunity to combine family, leisure, study and work.

The assignments take place in the Department of Surgery, Intensive Care and Emergency Medicine.

Whether in the anesthesiology or internal medicine intensive care unit, the surgical IMC, in anesthesia or in the OR, every area benefits from the compensation provided by IPP employees in the event of short-term staff absences due to illness.

The advantage for employees is obvious. Each employee can submit their own specific duty roster before the roster is created. The duty roster is written 3 months in advance according to the employee's ideas and specifications. The employee's specifications are binding for the duty planner. However, the location can change from day to day.

To ensure that our employees can be deployed in all areas, they are trained in each area. The individual induction period depends on your experience and can last up to 3 months. Only once you have completed your induction will you be gradually deployed in all areas. The IntensiveCarePool serves to compensate for short-term absences, which is why the place of assignment is often planned at short notice.

In the case of early shift or weekend duty, the location is agreed the day before. In the course of the morning, the employee is assigned a location for the late shift or night shift.

Each employee is assigned to a base station. If no assignment is currently required or the employee does not know the assignment location, he or she starts work in the area of the main ward.

Working at the IPP requires a broad range of specialist knowledge and offers every employee the opportunity to develop professionally and acquire new knowledge. Further and advanced training courses are held regularly in all areas, which IPP employees can take part in at any time.

"The work at the IPP is varied and extremely exciting. It allows me to combine my passion for intensive care and my family. I don't have to reduce my working hours and change jobs just because I have children."
