The Surgical Clinic in Mannheim was one of the first clinics in Germany to be recognized as a competence center for coloproctology (colon and rectal surgery). In our clinic, operations on the colon are performed very frequently, which is why my ward is one of the busiest and most important areas of the clinic. The latest surgical techniques are used, which mean a very gentle and comfortable type of bowel surgery for the patient: Without special bowel preparation - such as fasting and irrigation and lengthy aftercare with an inpatient stay.

On the ward, we therefore work according to the "FAST TRACK" principle, which provides for rapid normalization immediately after the operation and allows, for example, normal exercise routines or normal food intake. This has the advantage for our patients that their hospital stay can be greatly shortened and they do not stay on my ward for more than 2 days.

This rapid turnover makes stringent organization essential, because as soon as you have memorized the patient's name, they leave us again. However, the joy of being able to help many people in a short space of time outweighs this. Our expertise is also unparalleled at other university hospitals.
