On 1 January 2023, seven nursing staff embarked on the "365+ trainee program" adventure. After a quarter of a year in intensive care, some of them were about to change their area of work for the first time. The first few months were characterized by many new experiences that intensive care brings with it.
After the initial very intensive induction to get to know the many new areas of responsibility, the trainees now look after their assigned patients largely independently. Of course, they can always find an experienced contact person in their new team if they have any questions. The initial practical experience on the various wards was supported by theoretical training days in order to achieve an optimal transfer of knowledge. "This was a great support, especially when caring for ventilated patients," says one of the trainees.
At the first network meeting, the trainees discussed their experiences to date with each other and with Maximilian Ruppert, Head of Department. There was a lot of positive news to report, in particular the great integration into the existing intensive care teams was highlighted. One participant settled in so well that it was clear to her that she had found her dream ward and didn't want to leave. For the other participants, there has been a new area of intensive care to discover since April. With the experience they have gained so far, the new start is already much easier and many things are already routine. So far, everyone agrees that "they would take on the adventure again at any time".
