In order to relieve the pressure on specialist staff in the intensive care units, training courses are currently being held at Mannheim University Hospital for nursing staff who work in the normal wards. They are being prepared to provide support in intensive care as the coronavirus pandemic progresses.
Daniel Anders, member of the intensive care nursing pool and employee in nursing development, is organizing the so-called C-19 SPACE training courses (Skills PrepAration CoursE). As face-to-face training is not possible, Daniel Anders gave the participants a virtual tour of ICU 32-3 this week: he moved a laptop with a camera around the ward and showed the nursing staff, who were following the tour on screen, where the shock room is located and how the monitoring system works, for example.
Around 30 employees registered as participants for the first training course. In addition to the face-to-face training, which is conducted as a live online event, they complete several modules independently with the help of videos or podcasts, which are available on a digital learning platform.
