Since January 1, 2020, the Nursing Profession Reform Act (Pflegeberufereformgesetz) has combined training in geriatric, nursing and paediatric nursing into one generalist nursing training course, as care needs and care structures in Europe are changing:
- Nursing staff in retirement homes are caring for more and more people with chronic and multiple illnesses
- Nursing staff in hospitals increasingly require knowledge in dealing with patients who also suffer from dementia
The new generalist nursing training addresses these trends and brings together the previously strictly separate training courses for nursing, pediatric nursing and geriatric nursing. Graduates of the new nursing training program will cover a broader spectrum of work. At the same time, the training regulations in Europe are being harmonized so that the qualification "nursing specialist" will be recognized throughout the EU in future. So if you want to broaden your horizons, you can opt for generalist training and obtain a nursing specialist qualification. On May 25, our first trainees start their nursing practice on the ward with a two-week instruction seminar (course F 18).
