Nursing at the UMM
Nursing at the UMM
Nursing UMM-think
Nursing at the UMM is characterized on the one hand by the fact that it applies, researches and trains excellent medicine and nursing care. On the other hand, teamwork is a matter close to UMM's heart and it has a large number of long-serving employees. Hardly any other hospital has such a large number of employees who have been with the company for up to 40 years. This phenomenon speaks for a high level of identity and loyalty to the UMM as an employer. A high level of competence, experience, calmness and, in some situations, composure are the strengths of the employees in the nursing and functional services.
Thanks to the UMM Academy, the clinic recruits junior staff for its nursing teams every year, who support the development of the nursing department with their professional perspective and newly acquired knowledge.
The UMM Academy is currently developing the training further, or you could say completely new, as a result of the generalist nursing training. The curriculum is being developed from a practical perspective. Theory forms the umbrella for practical training and establishes the link to practical guidance. Our practical instructors work with specific cases so that the trainee can learn from case studies in practice.
Patient orientation UMM having our patients in mind
The most important goal of patient orientation is to see treatment from the patient's perspective and to focus on this. In nursing interaction, this is essentially achieved through the nursing diagnostic process, which continuously records and evaluates the individual nursing needs with the patient. The focus here is on the patient's wishes (patient autonomy) and advising the patient and their relatives. The patient is assigned a nursing contact person on a daily basis via the reference nursing.
If the patient is no longer able to represent themselves, the individual nursing requirements and the patient's presumed wishes are determined in a discussion with relatives or carers using the nursing history.
The nursing and social counseling service also provides the patient or their relatives (or carers) with good support when switching to other nursing focuses.
Further development of UMM to grow
Nursing at a university hospital is a profession in its own right. This can be seen not only in the high level of professional competence of the staff, such as geriatric nursing, oncological nursing or emergency nursing, which are offered by the UMM as specialist further training courses, but also in the specific nursing concepts used, such as kinaesthetics or aroma nursing, which are used in patient nursing.
The UMM has set itself the goal that at least 5% of nursing staff in direct patient nursing should be academically trained. To this end, it supports the study of nursing, nursing education or nursing management of selected employees who apply for funding each year.
