Neonatology

Station 28-4 and 30-4

Monika Schindler

Division management

The pediatric intensive nursing unit 30-4 and neonatal intensive nursing unit 28-4 are interdisciplinary and diverse in their tasks and requirements. This is reflected in the range of services and the multicultural composition of the teams. Patients from a wide range of specialist departments such as neonatology, pediatrics, neuropaediatrics, pediatric surgery, pediatric urology and pediatric neurosurgery are cared for with great empathy.

The employees acquire their qualifications through a thorough 12-week induction period and the opportunity to complete specialist pediatric training, as well as practical instruction from practical instructors in the department.

The good and trusting cooperation with the employees, the further development and organization of the department as well as the interdisciplinary cooperation for children and families still gives me great pleasure even after many years.

Sophia Ritzrau

Pediatric nurse in advanced training

The variety of clinical pictures on our ward is enormous, so you constantly have the opportunity to expand your specialist knowledge in all areas. As nursing staff, we have very close contact with our patients and their families and the smile, however small, of a child or their parents makes you go home smiling, which is the best thing.

Loredana Foerthner

Ward management 28-4 and 30-4

"Our role in patient nursing is more varied than any other. We are often many things at the same time: protector, advocate, comforter, rescuer, strong shoulder and helping hand. We are the link between patient and doctor. No one has as much contact with patients as we do and therefore notices every little change, whether positive or negative, knows their needs and simply has an eye on everything that is relevant to therapy and nursing. Parental support is particularly important when caring for premature babies. We guide, listen, comfort, give strength, encourage and also try to make things as pleasant and easy as possible for the parents.

We accompany our little patients from birth to discharge, follow every little step forward, but also every step backwards, are happy about every gram they gain and accompany the parents on this not always easy path."

Dipl. Psych. Mechthild Rupp

Psychosocial support for parents in neonatology

Our team supports the parents of premature or sick babies throughout their stay in hospital. In discussions, parents can share their worries, fears and joys with us psychologists and together we look for ways of coping with this difficult situation. In palliative situations, we stand by the parents' side. We also support the parents with family organization and the organization of their stay in Mannheim. "I am in close contact with the nursing team and can bring relief to the parents' day-to-day nursing by providing ongoing support."

Regina Zoth

Deputy Ward Manager 30-4

Nursing expertise is invested in the future of children. In our performance and profit-oriented world, the best investment and a fulfilling field of work - enough for a long professional life - always encouraging, challenging and "NEW"

Christina Bauer

Specialist nurse

We are a large ward with many different clinical pictures in every age group. You can constantly expand your specialist knowledge and work with the entire team of doctors, nurses, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, music therapists and many more to ensure that patients receive the best possible treatment. Support for families from counselors and psychologists is also an important component.

But above all, I am always at the side of the parents and their children, and together with them I am happy about the small and large advances. The gratitude of the families is the best praise.

Natalie Plischke

Intensive nursing for children

I like the varied and challenging work on the pediatric intensive nursing unit. From premature babies to pediatric patients after a burn accident, from caring for a sick child in the delivery room to surgery on the ward.
