DEPARTMENTAL MANAGEMENT OF THE UMM
What is a department?
The term department comes from the French and means division. Departments serve to demarcate different areas in order to organize business areas more clearly. The nursing division at Mannheim University Hospital is divided into four departments, each headed by a department head. The different clinics are located in the individual departments, with the next organizational unit being the wards.

CONSERVATIVE MEDICINE
In the conservative areas, specially qualified nursing staff follow a complex, non-surgical treatment concept for various clinical pictures. A personal treatment plan is drawn up for each patient after a thorough diagnosis and adapted to changing circumstances during the course of treatment. As part of a holistic treatment concept, the strategy is designed to make the patient's everyday life easier even after the inpatient stay. Areas of application are
Cardiology (I. Medical Clinic), Gastroenterology (II. Medical Clinic). Oncology (III. Medical Clinic), stem cell transplantation unit (KMT III. Medical Clinic), geriatric medicine and geriatrics (IV. Medical Clinic), nephrology (V. Medical Clinic) and neurology.

SURGERY | INTENSIVE | EMERGENCY
Intensive care involves complex patient monitoring and care. The units in which intensive care nurses are deployed are the intensive care units of the individual specialist clinics. The nursing management of the Intensive Care Department is headed by the ward managers of the individual intensive care units. At the UMM, these are subdivided into the conservative intensive care unit, the neurosurgical-anesthesiological intensive care unit, the surgical intensive care and recovery unit and the anesthesiological surgical intensive care unit.
