CLUSTER 3 - DC-OP

Cluster 3 is a surgical department for the specialist disciplines of neurosurgery, orthopaedics and traumatology.

Five operating theaters and an interdisciplinary hybrid operating room with the "Zeego" C-arm system are available for surgical care. This ultra-modern hybrid technology makes it possible to create CT-like images directly on the operating table.

Our core team consists of 22 employees and is made up of OP specialists, OTAs and supply assistants. Surgeries on, in and with brains, precision work with and without a microscope, a Bauhaus feeling, the latest surgical techniques for implants and their systems, e.g. endoprosthetics, a fascinating, modern, highly technical working environment, challenging emergency procedures and much more offer exciting variety every day and enable continuous professional development.

Our team

Head of department:
Birgit Scholz: After qualifying as a nurse and working on the ward for around 2 years, I moved to the OP department 26 years ago. I have been working at the UMM since 1994 and completed my further training as a specialist nurse for the operating theater. I see the interdisciplinary and interprofessional cooperation in the OP with the nursing-anesthesia-doctor groups as a challenge that has to be mastered every day as a team. As a trained specialist, I see myself as a fully-fledged member of this team. This is a standard that I set for myself and that I try to convey and exemplify to the staff in my role as manager. The focus is on us. For me, leadership means encouraging, supporting, advising, challenging, cooperating and always keeping the goal in mind. Respectful, appreciative interaction is a basic prerequisite for the "we" and is something I live by and demand.

NCH OP specialist
Maurice Schneider: I have been working as an OTA in the NCH OP since 2019. I don't want to miss out on having fun at work or providing patients with the best possible nursing. Interdisciplinary work with all professional groups in the OP to ensure the best possible patient care is very important to me.

OUZ OP specialist
Lukas Birr: I have been working as an OTA in the OUZ OP since 2019. For me, the priority in our work is patient safety and optimal nursing. Having fun at work and team spirit are very important to me. I really enjoy working with the trainees/new employees and teaching them about the work in the OUZ OP and setting an example.

Practice instructor team
Yahya Cerrahoglu,Lukas Birr, Lisa Gronau: A team of practice instructors ensures careful, comprehensive training so that you don't think of camping when you hear the words "cerebellum tent" or run to the nearest DIY store when you hear "screws". Our motto is "practical guidance is the be-all and end-all of every start". Together with the trainees/new employees, we set goals that are pursued with an induction concept individually tailored to their previous knowledge. In this way, we enrich our cluster with high-quality staff so that we can contribute constructively as a fully-fledged member of the nursing-anaesthesia-doctor group.
