Ward 28 - 4
NEONATOLOGY AND PEDIATRIC INTENSIVE NURSING MEDICINE
The Department of Neonatology and Pediatric Intensive Nursing Medicine consists of Ward 28-4 "Conservative neonatology with currently 20 beds" and Ward 30-4 "Intensive nursing unit for premature and newborn babies and children of all ages with internal diseases as well as postoperative nursing for pediatric surgery, pediatric urology and neurosurgery with currently 17 beds". Ward 30-4 is a supra-regional center for lung failure for all age groups, a center for severe burn injuries and has expertise in children with congenital malformations and in particular children with congenital diaphragmatic hernia.
A total of 100 nursing posts are planned for the department, which is staffed by highly motivated, multicultural people who believe in teamwork. The ward consists of a large multidisciplinary team of doctors, nurses, PTAs, psychologists, social pedagogues, occupational therapists, physiotherapists, pastoral nursing workers and music therapists, all of whom are dedicated to the treatment and well-being of patients in their various professions. The family-oriented approach places parents and families at the center of attention. Parents are involved in the nursing of their children. In order to meet the requirements, the staff have acquired various qualifications and basal stimulation and kinaesthetics are applied individually. Breastfeeding and parenting advice, baby massage, babywearing advice and resuscitation courses for parents of at-risk children are also on offer. Wound counseling for collegial exchange, pain nurse and ethics counseling support the team, and palliative care training increases the qualifications of the staff. Close networking with the various parents' associations complements the cooperation with parents. Specialist training in pediatric intensive nursing has been an integral part of improving the quality of nursing since 1982; it has been held in cooperation with the Heidelberg University Children's Hospital for many years and participants benefit from the exchange with other clinics. In addition to practical instruction, new employees receive in-depth training during study days to enable them to master the challenges. The trainees receive good support from practical instructors.
