MAIN NIGHT WATCH EAST
What do we main night watchmen do in the East Building (NBO) of the UMM?
We main night guards support the nursing staff in the conservative clinics with our work to ensure that everything runs as smoothly as possible at night, for the well-being and safety of our patients. We have a PSE (paging unit) and a portable telephone and can therefore be contacted by all night watches in the new east building as well as by the doctors on duty, the intensive nurswing units and the ZNA.
We support the staff in our department in emergency situations (e.g. resuscitation) and with routine tasks (e.g. administering oral and IV medication) or special incidents, such as falls, surgical or intensive nursing transports and positioning critically ill patients.
In the event of sickness absence, we take over the respective ward. On request, we advise staff and train new or external staff. We also ensure that nursing and hygiene standards are adhered to at night.
We also take care of bed occupancy management. We allocate free beds to emergencies in cooperation with the Central Emergency Department and the intensive nursing units. In doing so, we take into account the specialist discipline and the severity of the patient's illness in order to achieve a homogeneous distribution in the internal medicine department. We main night watchmen are the link at the interface between nursing, medical services, PDL, patients and relatives, patient logistics and, if necessary, the police, fire department or tradesmen from various repair services.
We help to de-escalate challenging situations. In addition to organizational talent and broad specialist knowledge, we therefore also need sensitivity and good communication skills.
We are very flexible, because no two nights are the same.
