CONSERVATIVE INTENSIVE CARE UNIT

Covers specialties in internal medicine

Patients from all specialties of internal medicine are treated in the conservative intensive care unit. This includes the specialties of cardiology, gastroenterology, haemato-oncology and nephrology. Neurological patients requiring intensive care can also be treated here. This broad specialist focus requires close cooperation between the individual specialist disciplines and the specialist knowledge of the nursing staff working there. Conservative intensive care medicine is characterized by its unpredictability, as patients do not come for elective interventions, but usually require intensive care due to an acute event. This routine unpredictability makes this ward a highly exciting place to work. One moment, our colleagues on site are doing intensive breathing training with a patient with exacerbated COPD and the next, they are in the cardiac catheterization lab because a patient with a fresh anterior wall infarction has been brought in by the emergency doctor. "These many different challenges keep my job exciting, even after more than 14 years. I'm always learning something new," says ward manager Marieta Lippmann. To make all this possible, the ward has its own respiratory therapist, who has also been qualified as a specialist nurse in anaesthesia and intensive care for many years, and its own emergency paramedic for intensive care transports.

The nursing team on ward 10-4/11-4 is characterized on the one hand by its high level of professionalism. The nursing staff are professionals when it comes to patients with the most serious cardiological conditions, some of whom have to be treated with cardiac support procedures or even an extracorporeal heart-lung machine. The greatest attribute, however, is the high level of humanity and patient treatment of the patients. Intensive care patients are closely supported on their often very difficult path back to life, with fears and worries taking center stage alongside medical problems. To be able to do all this, the 10-4/11-4 team has an exceptional sense of team spirit. "In intensive care, you always have to work particularly closely together, you can't get very far on your own. It starts with mobilization and ends with resuscitation. But that's exactly our strength! ", says the new shift manager Hannah Kraus.

STATION MANAGEMENT

Marietta Lippmann

My name is Marieta Lippmann and I am the ward manager of the conservative intensive care unit. In addition to my specialist training as a nurse for anaesthesia and intensive care medicine, I have completed further training as a ward manager and am currently studying at ....

Conservative intensive care medicine is characterized by its high professional standards. We treat patients from all conservative clinics such as cardiology, pulmonology, gastroenterology and nephrology on our intensive care unit. It is therefore important that cooperation with all professional groups and specialist clinics runs smoothly. As ward manager, I have a special role to play here and am happy to be the point of contact for my nursing colleagues and professional representatives in interdisciplinary discussions.

EMPLOYEE STATION MANAGEMENT

Katarina Izdan

I have been on the internal intensive care unit since 2003. I trained as a specialist nurse for anesthesia and intensive care at the UMM in 2007 and have been deputy ward manager since 2018.

I particularly enjoy alternating between working with patients and administrative tasks.
This variety is what makes my job so exciting and I look forward to new challenges every day.

For me, nursing is one of the most versatile professions with many opportunities for further training and development. This is where professionalism and humanity meet.

The field of cardiology inspired me right from the start of my career as a registered nurse. Since 2003, I have been working in the interdisciplinary internal intensive care unit 10- 4/11-4 as a specialist nurse for anesthesia and intensive care medicine. I still very much enjoy working in this special area, as I want to face the challenges of accompanying and supporting people in their recovery every day.

The role of deputy ward manager, which I have held since 2021, allows me to bring more responsibility and expertise to our team. For me, teamwork means mutual respect and a sense of cohesion.
