INTERNAL INTENSIVE CARE UNIT

Intermediate care unit (IMC)

The Internal Medicine Intermediate Care Unit (IMC) at Mannheim University Hospital was founded in spring 2023 and has been building up a motivated, coordinated team ever since. The IMC team currently operates four bed spaces in the existing structures of ward 11-4.

The work is very varied, as ward manager Anna-Carina Herrmann explains: "If we are caring for cardiology patients today, tomorrow we have cases from gastroenterology and the day after tomorrow from nephrology. It's really diverse here." Compared to the normal ward, however, the specialist requirements are also higher. "We also have to be prepared for very short-term developments here," emphasizes Herrmann.

In the future, the IMC ward is to be spun off into its own area and provide six IMC beds in four patient rooms. "First of all, however, it is important for us to further develop and consolidate our processes and, above all, to recruit even more colleagues for our diverse and harmonious team," says Anna-Carina Herrmann.

Are you a nurse and would like to work on the internal medicine IMC ward at the UMM? Then send an e-mail to the PDL Maximilian Ruppert at maximilian.ruppert@umm.de. If you have any questions about the IMC, please contact Anna-Carina Herrmann at -9091 or anna-carina.herrmann@umm.de.
