Welcome Rayk Oemus-Diehl
The UMM has a new nursing director

On Wednesday, May 15, the 44-year-old nursing graduate, nurse and coach will take up his position as Director of Nursing at the University Medical Center Mannheim, where he will represent the interests of employees from the nursing and functional areas at the UMM. Not an easy task, but we trust him to do it. So far, he has mastered the course in an exemplary manner. So it can succeed.
Seen from the outside, this new position is almost a logical consequence. After completing his training at Heidelberg University Hospital, he gained several years of experience as a nurse in intensive nursing medicine and oral and maxillofacial surgery.
In 2011, he initially worked as a cross-ward area manager in the head clinic at the UKHD; while working, Oemus-Diehl completed a degree in nursing management as well as training as a coach and consultant. These were ideal prerequisites for subsequently taking up the post of acting head of the nursing and functional areas at UKHD.
From here, he made the leap to Heppenheim District Hospital, where he took up the position of Director of Nursing in 2019 and is responsible for the nursing and functional areas of the 280-bed hospital on the Bergstrasse. In addition to the general wards, the intensive nursing unit, stroke unit and CPU as well as the emergency room, endoscopy, operating theater and central patient management are also part of his day-to-day business. The start was not without hurdles, but was characterized by the corona pandemic, which, as we know, presented a particular challenge. Despite these adversities, he succeeded in strategically realigning the nursing staff and reorganizing management structures in order to maintain the motivation and team spirit of the employees. After 5 years of service in Heppenheim, the Director of Nursing, who remains a seconded member of staff at Heidelberg University Hospital, is bidding farewell with regret. Responsible for the expansion of training places, including the introduction of training courses for surgical and anesthesia assistants, he was able to increase the number of trainees taken on and attract new qualified nursing staff by exemplifying a modern management style, as well as developing and strengthening his management team.
Now the next step as Director for 1,300 members of the UMM nursing team, who care for patients in over 50 wards, operating theaters and functional areas. That suits us. Strong - stronger - maximum care provider: simply UMM.
