When I started my training as a nurse at the UMM in 2012, I was aware that the nursing profession offers a wide range of opportunities, perspectives and prospects. However, at the time I could only imagine a fraction of what has since opened up to me after many further training courses and qualification measures.

Nevertheless, almost every day I come across a new perspective on how nursing or nursing measures can be perceived or carried out. I met Prof. Anne Marie Rafferty, President of the Royal College of Nursing, at a congress.
One of her statements had a profound impact on me and led me to a new way of thinking: We need big nurses, not small doctors

It is very important to me to make nursing practice evidence-based, to advance nursing research and thus to further integrate nursing concepts into practice in order to improve the nursing of our patients.

Integrating a new nursing concept into a facility is a challenge in itself. However, implementing the concept of aroma nursing in a university hospital is a major challenge for the entire facility. Aroma nursing is far more complex than one might expect. A large number of legal, technical, hygiene and pharmacy and management guidelines have to be taken into account. The way in which it is implemented is also ultimately decisive for success or failure.

Daniel Anders dealt intensively with this topic during the start of the implementation of aroma nursing at the UMM and published his findings in the specialist journal "Die Schwester Der Pfleger". The article is available free of charge at the following link.
