Special features of the UMM practice learning location

The University Medical Center Mannheim is a clinic that is characterized by the combination of research, teaching and patient care.
These three tasks are pursued in an organizational construct consisting of the Faculty of Medicine and the University Hospital. Without university medicine, the German healthcare system would not exist in its internationally recognized form and efficiency. Almost all nurses and doctors are trained at university hospitals and receive specialist further training.

The further training of nursing staff at the UMM also takes place in specialized nursing departments and learning locations, so that ultimately unclear cases are also diagnosed by them and critically ill and terminally ill patients are primarily cared for clinically and in a nursing capacity by them.

Basic biomedical research, clinical trials and the initial application of most medical and nursing innovations also take place within the framework of university medicine.
